5 Signs Your Website Is Losing You Customers (and How to Fix Them)
October 30, 2026 · 5 min read
Your website might be getting visitors, but are those visitors turning into calls, bookings and sales? Many small business websites quietly lose customers every day because of problems that are easy to miss when you see the site every day.
Here are five of the most common ones, and what to do about each.
1. It's slow on phones
Most people browse on their phones, often on mobile data. If your pages take more than a few seconds to load, many visitors give up before they see anything.
How to fix it: compress and resize images, remove plugins and scripts you don't need, and use modern hosting. Test your site with Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool.
2. There's no clear next step
Visitors should know within seconds what you do and how to contact you. If they have to hunt for a phone number or choose between five different buttons, many will leave.
How to fix it: pick one main action (call, book, request a quote or buy) and make it the most visible button on every page. Put your phone number at the top on mobile.
3. It looks outdated
People judge a business by its website in seconds. An old design, stretched photos or an outdated copyright year can make visitors wonder if you're still in business.
How to fix it: refresh the design with a clean layout, consistent fonts and colors, and real photos of your team and work.
4. It's hard to use on mobile
Tiny text, buttons too close together, menus that don't work and pages that scroll sideways are all signs a site wasn't designed for phones.
How to fix it: test every page on your own phone. Make text readable without zooming, buttons easy to tap, and forms short.
5. There's no proof you're good
Before contacting a business, people look for evidence that others have had a good experience. Without reviews, real photos or examples of your work, visitors have no reason to trust you over a competitor.
How to fix it: add genuine customer reviews (your Google reviews are a great start), photos of real projects, and any certifications or results you can share.
